This morning I read about a 13-year-old on a bike in San Ramon being hit by an alleged drunk driver who had his two kids in the vehicle with him.

Most parents will feel like it's always someone else, but I see parents taking their children to school driving through San Ramon like there's a fire.

I was sitting at the light on the corner of Alcosta and Bollinger Canyon watching the traffic come down the hill on Bollinger. It seemed to me like everyone was doing at least 50 mph coming through that intersection.

I'm in favor of more neighborhood speed-bumps and photo-cops at every intersection. Very few, it seems, have the awareness or discipline to obey traffic laws.

Did I mention that my daughter was hit by a car two blocks from our house when she was 13?

In reviewing the accident description involving Daniel, it seems like the driver of the van must have been looking to the left as she entered the intersection - going through the crosswalk without looking to the right first. The very thing I see all day long with drivers making right hand turns.

While I'm on this rant, I might as well mention how many vehicles I see with business signs on them speeding through the neighborhood. I've called some of the businesses and asked them if they really think I am going to do business with them when they their drivers have no consideration for the safety of my neighborhood.
