Almost every Thursday night in Danville from 6:30-9:30 p.m. a group of local (sometimes loco) musicians and occaisonally an out of the area musician or two get together to play music and socialize at the Pioneer Art Gallery at 524 Hartz Ave. I have been attending these jam sessions now for about two months and it is always a pleasure to get together with so many creative people who have much in common but bring something different and unique with their own style of playing.
This week we were fortunate to not only have many of the talented local musicians there, but were also treated to a visit from Scotty Cash from Jensen Beach Florida.
No, he's not related to Johnny Cash, but Scotty travels around the country playing music in numerous venues and happended to hear about our jam session and dropped in. With a laid back southern style all his own, Scotty jumped right in like he'd been jamming with us for months. Here's Scotty (on the left) with Richie, one of our very talented local musicians who plays a mean acoustical guitar and provides some exceptional lead vocals and blues harp. You can check out Scotty Cash on MySpace.
Another highlight at this week's jam was having two bass guitar players (Dennis Viers and Wendel Jeong) providing "stereo" bottom end grooves that gave the other guitarists a lot of foundation to play off of. I will be providing more updates on these and other music venues around the area, and introducing you to more of the musicians in the area with future blog posts, but suffice it to say if you are musically inclined or just like to listen to some great jamming, you should stop by and check this out.
The Pioneer Art Gallery is a cooperative space located in downtown Danville that features exceptional fine art — sponsored by the Alamo Danville Artists Society (ADAS). This venue also provides opportunities for the community to develop their various creative talents and interests. Visit: www.adas4art.org for more info.

Good looking group. I want a hat like Billy Bassman.
Best wishes,
Ray
Thanks, Craig for the blog. I have met a lot of great people there at the gallery jam sessions. Thanks to Wendel for letting me sit in last month when I didn’t bring my axe. Steve works hard setting up the drum kit and Richie is a master at setting up the PA with no feedback. LeRoy rocks. Keep on rockin!
