Proposed Asian Shopping Center Meets Opposition
Fremont-based Rowland Development Corp. is crossing its fingers with its plan to build 149,000 square feet on seven acres of land that sits right across the Sybase headquarters. It would also be located just a few blocks north of another proposed shopping center development by Black Hunt Ventures.
Their proposition would clear way for the construction of retail space that would include an organic Asian grocery store, a sports complex with a spa and a cultural/conference center as anchor tenants. Salons and other small businesses would take over the remaining lots.
Detractors of the Korean shopping center plan want the space to be reserved as “campus offices” and that its approval would create an imbalance between office and retail space in the burgeoning commercial area.
