Hi John,
I would have to agree with your point of view regarding the reverse mortgage products being a potential mess. They are beneficial to a few elders with who have the right circumstances. My mother - 91 years old, contacted me last Summer about getting a reverse mortgage on her home in Huntington Beach. It was in response to a T.V. ad she saw with some celebrity endorseing the product. If she had not called me for advice because I was a Realtor, she may have jumped into a real mess with the only real asset she had left -the equity in her home. It is probably not a product for most elders, and... I am sure it can be set up very responsibly by the right mortgage counselor. But, the reason for the aggressive ad campaigns pushing them is because the elders in our country probably don't have a Realtor for a son to call and ask for his opinion. I will keep following your thoughts on this topic.
