Out of Control Economy – Is Your Life

Today's Economy: What Myth Are You Stuck In? by Russell Bishop

In my work over the years with individuals as well as corporate leadership teams, I often bump into the same phenomenon: many of us seem to prefer living in our myths to living in our lives. The preference for myth to reality seems to get us in all kinds of trouble.

Two of the more common myths I encounter are the Myth of Control and Myth of Stability. These two are playing out in interesting ways as we struggle with one of today's big issues impacting many of us – the economy and what we can do about it.

Amazing as it may seem, we continue to see and hear of homeowners who want to sell their homes for more than the market will pay. Time is of the essence – every day that passes waiting for the light to go on costs homeowners more money.

This past week we encountered several more examples of homes coming back on the market that were overpriced iat the end of 2006 and the begiing of 2007. These homeowners thought they would ride out the downturn, but have now realized that they need to move on. The sad thing is – they are still overpricing their homes for this market.

Here's a recent success story that involved our own Ginny Mees:

"I worked with Ginny on the sale of our home in September of 2008. It was a difficult time both personally and professionally. I was in the midst of a divorce and had just been laid off from my job. Ginny came into my home with energy, empathy, and complete professionalism. She detailed out a very specific marketing plan to get the house sold for the best price in the shortest amount of time. Ginny executed her plan to perfection and we had a full price offer the first week the house went on the market (Yes, in this terrible economy we got our asking price!) and we closed 30 days later.

Ginny kept the stress level to a minimum and the information level exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend Ginny as a Realtor and I wish her success with her new web venture www.SingleWomanHomeowner.com."

Getting homeowners to price their homes right for this market is the biggest challenge Realtors face in this market. Homeowners that price their homes according to market value sell their homes while others linger.
