Reflecting on Recent Tragedies

In the wake of the bridge collapse in Minnesota last Wednesday, it has caused me to reflect on the fragility of life and find justifications for the deaths and fates of those who survived.

Only less than a month ago, the president of Jansport, Michael Corvino, tragically passed away in a car crash near the Danville area. I’m sure others would agree with me when I say that death has the ability to take it all away in the blink of an eye. It doesn’t make a difference if you’re a president of a successful company or one of the lucky students on the school bus that just narrowly missed the fall from the bridge and into the Mississippi River.

In the case of the victims of the Minnesota bridge collapse, they never saw it coming. I couldn’t even bear to imagine the terror they felt in a moment's instant. Mr. Corvino was an unfortunate victim as well, and it was a blessing that his son was able to survive from the crash.

As I said in a post for the Contra Costa Times’ LIP Blog a few months ago, I just love life way too much to lose it tomorrow or the day after.
