During our HarperMees team meeting on Monday, Craig received a call from a woman wanting to rent 4 VIP portable restrooms. He handed the phone to me.

Don’t jump to the conclusion that this team of Danville – San Ramon real estate agents are moonlighting in the portable toilet business. If you recall, Hanson & Fitch Temporary Site Services is one of the Bay Area businesses that I consult with on Internet marketing.

The woman on the phone found our site and apparently didn’t read the whole article as she was calling us to deliver 4 of Todd’s temporary restrooms!

He tells me they are now receiving about 6 calls a day as a result of our Internet marketing consulting. So much business, in fact, that he has had to order another 100 toilets!

I was talking to my buddy, Todd Fitch (owner Hanson & Fitch), the other day and he informed me that he has spent the last two weeks installing GPS units on his portable toilets. Hanson and Fitch is a temporary site services company, meaning they provide temporary fencing, portable toilets and fresh water tanks to construction sites or event sites.

Each portable toilet has an iButton attached. This chip allows Hanson & Fitch to know where their portable toilets are at any given moment and the data is also streamed into their accounting and logistics system.

Todd told me that this technology will allow the company to grow on top of a platform that is smart business - inventory control, distribution of product and services, and control over billing. Hanson & Fitch can grow as large as they want and still manage to see the details that each customer sees on their respective job site and or event.

Portable toilets and temporary fencing are not a business many would consider going into, but Todd saw a great opportunity and purchased the 30 year old business several years ago. H&F is expanding like crazy throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Todd’s putting in 12 to 14 hours a day between his home in Danville, his business location in Gilroy, and all of the job sites he visits. Currently the monster job is at Pebble Beach Golf Course where Hanson & Fitch is installing a variety of temporary fencing and portable toilets for the upcoming AT&T Pro Am Golf Tournament.

Over coffee, Todd told me about the monster scoreboard – located on the 18^th green at Pebble Beach in Monterey,CA. This monster scoreboard is a monster job for Hanson & Fitch. The monster scoreboard will be the focus of much media attention and will be seen many times by tens of millions of viewers worldwide.

So, it’s a monster job for Todd, to make sure everything is perfect. BTW – the monster scoreboard is not electronic – real human beings have to post the scores! Now there is a monster job!

Todd told me that Hanson & Fitch has over 40 miles of temporary fencing in their yard. Usually about half is out on sites leaving them plenty of material to work with for those last minute parades, parties, rock concerts, sink holes or earthquakes that sneak up on us.
